Carrie Jacobs Bond was born in Janesville in 1862 and went on to become a composer of popular music from the 1890s through the early 1940s, including the song "I Love You Truly," which sold over one million copies. She started her own sheet music publishing company, and published books of poetry as well as creating the artwork for her sheet music cover pages. In her epitaph, President Herbert Hoover called her "America's gallant lady of song." A larger monument can be found in Bond Park, marking the location of her birthplace.
