Located on the east side of Midwest Indoor Storage, this whimsical mural was painted during Art Infusion 2023, replacing an earlier butterfly mural painted by the same artist. Valerie Saxer is a Janesville native who has been involved with the downtown all her life, with her father opening Saxer's Sporting Goods store on Main Street in 1949. As an adult, Valerie was active on many committees collaborating in a mission to revitalize the area and bring new life to our central, beautiful, and historic business district. This mural incorporates elements of the mural she created on this same wall in 2000. That art focused on an emerging butterfly symbolizing the rebirth of downtown Janesville. The 2023 version features a true to life size image of Valerie's granddaughter, Phoebe, in a nod to Banksy, in a decisive black and white. Val conveyed Phoebe's bright, optimistic nature by showing her releasing a sky full of colorful butterflies.
