Over forty percent of Wisconsinites claim German as their primary ancestry. Most of their ancestors came from German-speaking lands in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This presentation will look at the experiences of first-generation immigrants, their reasons for leaving Europe and settling in Wisconsin, the traditions they kept, and the unique Wisconsin culture they became a part of.
