October 9 | Hops and History: Victorian Death Rituals: Join Milton House Museum Executive Director Keighton Klos at Good Works Brewing Company as she explores why Victorian’s complex views on dying, mourning, and the afterlife have earned them the nickname of The Cult of Death.

October 9, 23 | Society for Anomalous Studies Presents: School Spirit: This presentation at the Lincoln-Tallman Carriage House focuses on paranormal findings from investigations of schools and other educational locations. See and hear the evidence captured in old colleges, Carnegie libraries, one room schoolhouses and abandoned high schools.

October 9-12 | Enchanted Forest and Hollywood Hayride: Escape into a world of fairytales and nursery rhymes in Palmer Park. The event offers a self-guided candlelit walking tour or a star-studded narrated hayride. Costumed characters from each tale will be passing out treats and performing small skits.

October 10 | Stranger Art Things Exhibit Opening Reception: A curious art show you’ll be strangely drawn to, the Janesville Art League members have created a peculiar assortment of unusual pieces. Meet these extraordinary artists, enjoy the treats, but keep an eye on that art just in case. The exhibit is available for viewing until November 3.

October 10-12, 17-19 | Young Frankenstein: Frederick Frankenstein reluctantly inherits his infamous family’s estate in Transylvania. Urged on by a hunchbacked sidekick and a leggy lab assistant, Frederick finds himself fulfilling his grandfather’s corpse-raising legacy. This electrifying musical stage adaptation at the Janesville Performing Arts Center of the brilliantly funny Mel Brooks film is sure to leave you in stitches.

October 11, 19 | Into the Light: A Paranormal Investigation: Experience a hands-on paranormal investigation at the Milton House Museum.

October 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, 31, November 1, 2 | Forest of Freaks Haunted Trails: Take your pick (if you dare) between two frightening 30-minute trails that will be sure to knock your socks off and meet all of the clowns, witches, and wolves lurking along the way. Enjoy food, music, and a fire pit as you wait to enter the trail.

October 12 | Murder Mystery Evening: The Janesville Moose Lodge hosts this fun night of mystery, laughs, and great food. 

October 18, 24 | A Bewitching Tale: A chilling hysteria swept Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 resulting in the prosecution and execution of those who allegedly practiced witchcraft. As a direct descendent of Rebecca Nurse who was executed after being convicted of witchcraft, Tom Skinner uncovers the grim truths of the period with a focus on the causes, accusers, victims, and how it all finally came to an end during this presentation at the Lincoln-Tallman Carriage House.

October 18 | Not-So-Scary Movie Night: Cargill Children’s Ministry hosts this movie night featuring a variety of Halloween shorts that include Veggie Tales and Spookley

October 19 | Halloween Party at Kidtopia Indoor Playground: This Halloween family fun day features snacks, treats, pumpkin painting, games, prizes, and more. Come dressed up and show off those super special, super scary, super silly costumes too. 

October 19 | Crawl-o-Ween: Break out your best costumes as you crawl your way across downtown Janesville, enjoying great drink specials and prizes along the way. The scariest pub crawl around kicks off at Whiskey Ranch, then heads to Looking Glass, Drafthouse, Wiggy’s, O’Riley and Conway’s Irish Pub, and the good times wrap up at Riley’s Sports Bar and Grill.

October 29 | Haunted House History & Modern Ghost Hunting: Learn how the library can assist you in your paranormal investigation by finding out the name of who is haunting your house, checking out equipment from the Library of Things, or getting assistance from a librarian. Then explore the history of ghost hunting with Cindy Heinen & Randy Sunby from the Society for Anomalous Studies.

October 31 | Halloween Costume Party: Calling all ghouls, goblins, and wine lovers – join Timber Hill Winery for a spooktacular Halloween Costume Party. Don’t forget to wear your best costume because the Timber Hill staff will be voting for the top look at 5:30 PM. 

October 31 | Owl-O-Ween: Experience the enchantment of owls with the thrill of Halloween. Meet some of the owls of Hoo’s Woods Raptor Center & learn about their magic while sipping a caramel apple cocktail and some seasonal snacks at Northleaf Winery. 

November 1 | HalloWine Costume Party: Join Northleaf Winery for a HalloWine night full of fun. Win a prize in the costume contest and enjoy live music performed by The Radiant Beings.
