This "Big Rock" served as a landmark for early settlers, marking a shallow part of the river that could be forded safely. It is suggested that this rock may have given Rock County its name. The rock contains a small cave on the river side of the rock. The rock is accessible from the Ice Age Trail that runs along the Rock River, and parking is available nearby at Monterey Park.
